National Night Out

Galveston’s “National Night Out” Event Set for Tuesday, October 4th

Bringing Neighbors Together, Strengthening Community Partnerships

Galveston’s “National Night Out” is organized by the Galveston Police Department and will be held on Tuesday, October 4th. Last year’s event was a huge success as many new neighborhoods came on board and community participation in the festivities increased from previous years – the Galveston Police Department is hoping this year will be even bigger! This national event promotes neighborhood camaraderie by bringing neighbors together to effectively identify and fight crime while building relationships with one another and the Galveston Police Department.

Now in its 33rd year, National Night Out was originally organized to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Festivities can range from something as simple as treats for the kids to a full-blown potluck dinner. Many Galveston neighborhoods will host block parties and cookouts, hold contests, and offer fun children’s activities. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know your neighbors, support local businesses, and engage in a community-wide, family friendly event.

Are you interested in being a block captain or looking to find out about an event in your neighborhood? Please contact Galveston Police Sgt. Destin Sims by calling (409) 765-3606 or by email at dsims@galvestontx.gov to register your neighborhood today!
