Civil Service Exam February 9, 2017

The Galveston Police Department is hiring and the Civil Service entrance exam is going to be held on February 9th at 8am at the Galveston Island Convention Center! Please read below the registration for information regarding requirements, details on the exam, the physical agility test, and more. Registration is closed for the exam but you can show up first come first serve at 8am the day of the exam to take the test.

The Details:
  • Make sure that you meet the minimum requirements before registering:
  • You MUST meet these requirements to apply:

    1. Must be 21 years of age by swear in date
    2. Must not have reached their 45th birthday by the date of hire
    3. High School Graduate OR attained GED AND 12 credit hours from an accredited college or university
    4. U.S. Citizen
    5. Not prohibited by State or Federal law from operating a motor vehicle
    6. Not prohibited by State or Federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition
    7. Good physical and mental condition
    8. No felony convictions
    9. Has never been convicted of a Family Violence Offense
    10. Has never been convicted of a Class A Misdemenor
    11. Has not been convicted of a Class B Misdemenor in the last 10 years
    12. Has never been discharged from the Military under a less than honorable discharge
  • Keep the following things in mind for the exam
    • The exam will be held February 9th at 8am at the Galveston Island Convention Center.
    • Registered participants will need to arrive between 8am and 9am to sign in. You will need to bring a copy of your photo ID and be prepared to give your social security number. 
    • The exam will take place in Ballroom A at the Galveston Island Convention Center.
    • Candidates can plan for the test to take up to three hours.
    • Those candidates who pass the test will be required to take a physical agility test. Please bring appropriate attire.

  • What happens after the exam
    • You will submit the Personal History Statement and required documents
    • Background Investigation will commence
    • Applicants MAY be subject to a Polygraph Exam if their background investigator feels that they have been deceptive during the Background Investigation
    • Chiefs Interview / Conditional Offer of Employment
    • Physical (Medical) Screening
    • Psychological Evaluation
    • Galveston PD In-service Academy
    • Sworn in as a Galveston Police Officer
