(GALVESTON, TX) February 23, 2018 – Beginning the week of February 26th, the Department of Development Services will be taking its first step toward offering electronic plan review to those doing business with the City of Galveston. By allowing applicants to submit their plans electronically, the new system will reduce the amount of time and cost, as well as, reduce the time necessary for review by each department. This new process will also provide the multiple departments involved in the plan review process the ability to work simultaneously toward approvals, instead of having to wait for paper plans to make their way through each reviewer in the process. This initiative will help expedite requests and increase communication throughout the process.
The first step in implementing the software needed to offer this service is inputting the permit approval processes and the steps that will enable electronic plan submittal and review. Although the system will not be fully operational until this summer, the steps necessary toward implementation begin next week. Progress never comes without a cost; while staff works toward initial implementation customers may experience slight delays in service during the week of February 26that the Planning Counter and over the phone.
As the City gets closer to bringing this service online we will provide more information. Stay tuned to www.galvestontx.gov and follow us on social media for the latest.
