Seawall Bathrooms and Showers Set to Open in Time for Easter Weekend

Galveston, TX – March 29th, 2018 – A highly anticipated addition to the Seawall is set to open their doors on Good Friday, March 30th, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. The five new Portland Loo’s will be available for visitors from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day and include outdoor showers convenient for beachgoers to rinse off after a long day in the sand and sun.

The Loos are located on Seawall Boulevard at 61st Street, 45th Street, 39th Street, 29th Street and 19th Street. The $90,000 stainless steel structures are built to withstand Galveston’s elements and are anticipated to provide 40 to 60 years of service to the community. They are part of over 4.9 million dollars in improvements to the Seawall that have been in the works since 2016.

Other completed improvements to the Boulevard include lighted bollards from 19th Street to 29th Street, 29 new bus lighted bus stops and seven new beautification areas that include planters with palm trees, gateway signs, and greenscaping. The revenue collected from Seawall Parking will fund the management and maintenance of these improvements.

The City’s two beach pocket parks will also be open for Island residents and visitors to spend the Easter holiday. The parks are located at 7 ½ Mile Road and 9 Mile Road and will be open through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a $15 entry fee each time a vehicle enters the park.

  • Beach Pocket Park #1 is located off of FM 3005 at 7 ½ Mile Road and offers visitors the ability to pull their vehicles up to the shoreline in an area that allows families plenty of room to spread out.
  • Beach Pocket Park #2 is also located off of FM 3005 at 9 Mile Road and offers visitors numerous amenities such as showers, restrooms, paved parking, and a large deck with tables perfect for a beachside picnic.

The Galveston Trolley will also be operating three of the rubber wheel trolley’s from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day through Easter. The trolley buses are $1 per ride and service a downtown route that has seven stops through Galveston’s historic downtown, and a seawall route that makes stops frequently from Stewart Beach to Moody Gardens.
