Galveston, TX – August 21, 2018 - The City of Galveston Building Division is currently implementing policy changes that will affect permitted construction projects within the city limits.
Beginning September 1, 2018, residential constructions may schedule Electrical Temporary Cut-In inspections (TCI) subsequent to city approval of all rough-in inspections and following the installation of permanent covering (interior and exterior). Upon approval, power will be released for the duration of the project or expiration of the permit.
In order to schedule a TCI inspection, contractors must have the original, finished construction elevation certificate and the request for temporary utilities completed and signed by the general contractor and master electrician. No administrative fee is required for the TCI inspection.
Also, the Early Clearance inspection will be eliminated. An electrical final will still be required before issuing a certificate of occupancy, however, the house will be energized for the final inspection.
These policy changes are intended to help contractors and improve customer service, allowing power earlier in the project while providing the customer with a more comprehensive electrical inspection.
