Update: September 14th, 4:00 p.m. The City of Galveston is under a flash flood watch until 4:00 a.m. We are monitoring impassable roads and we will periodically provide updates on social media about our main thoroughfares.

Remember, the status of these roads can change quickly. Road closures, barricades, and other cautionary signs are placed for your safety and the safety of others. If you encounter flooding on a roadway, turn around.
September 14, 9:00 am: We are under a flash flood warning from the National Weather Service until 10:30 a.m. today and street flooding is occurring around the island. The greater region is under a flash flood watch until 12 p.m. High tide occurred at 6:23 a.m. and the next low tide is expected at 1:36 p.m.
Use caution when driving and avoid flooded streets. Remember to drive slowly to avoid creating wake, which can send water into businesses and homes. If you see a flooded street, turn around. Remember, turn around and don't drown. The City has received reports of flooding along Harborside Drive, including near 51st Street and Ferry Road. We are also receiving reports of flooding along sections of Broadway, including near 43rd, 44th, 45th and 51st streets. Residents on the commute to work likely came across street flooding on many of the side streets.
We will try to provide updates about the City's main thoroughfares as information is available. The City has placed barricades downtown. Please heed all barricades and cautionary signs. They are out for your safety and the safety of others. We encourage residents and visitors to avoid driving if possible. If you must drive, use caution and drive slowly.
