Galveston, TX – Feb. 27, 2018 – Swim season is around the corner! The Lasker Park Community Pool will open for its 2019 spring season on Saturday, March 9.
The community pool provides residents with a state-of-the-art facility, which includes a recreational pool with kid-friendly play structures and a body slide, as well as an eight-lane short course yard pool for hosting swim meets. The pool is located at 2016 43rd St. near Ball High School.
The pool opened in 2017 after a four-year community effort to raise money for the project. Since its opening, the pool has become one of the premier facilities on the island. During the busy summer season, hundreds of people visit Lasker Park each week to take water fitness classes, swim laps or play in the kid-friendly recreation pool.
“Lasker Park Community Pool is a Galveston gem,” City Manager Brian Maxwell said. “The pool serves countless island residents by providing a place to swim that is both safe and affordable.”
The City of Galveston is still hiring lifeguards for the pool. The first round of tryouts will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 2. The next round of tryouts will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on March 9.
