GALVESTON, TX – March 8, 2019 – The City of Galveston will begin collecting data this week on the conditions of isle roadways to inform the City’s street repair plan.
Street assessments, which are typically done every two to five years, provide the City with a current look at the condition of the roadways and help prioritize the need for improvements. They also provide the City with a digital inventory of all transportation-related assets located within the right-of-way. The City last collected this data in February 2017.
“We are excited to begin this data gathering project,” City Manager Brian Maxwell said. “This data will be extremely helpful in planning where to best utilize our infrastructure funds.”
The street assessment is being performed by Data Transfer Solutions, LLC (DTS), which provides professional asset management and mobile data collection services to local and state government agencies across the country.
Residents will begin seeing Data Transfer Solutions vehicles driving throughout the City beginning Thursday, March 14. The fleet is equipped with cameras to create a digital video inventory. In order to ensure the highest quality of data and imagery, the vehicles will only collect data during daylight hours. The data collection will only be used internally by DTS and City staff, and will not be shared with any other external agencies.
