City to host public meeting on Island Transit changes

ISLAND TRANSIT PUBLIC MEETING

GALVESTON, TX (March 28, 2019) –The City of Galveston is hosting a public meeting to inform residents and receive feedback about potential changes to Island Transit services. The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 in Council Chambers, 823 Rosenberg.

The City of Galveston is considering significant changes to services provided by Island Transit. Those revisions include potential elimination of weekend services and a potential fare increase for the fixed-route buses and Demand Response (Dial-A-Ride) and RIDES programs.

PROPOSED CHANGES

As a result, the proposed changes are being considered:

Eliminating weekend services for fixed route and the Demand Response ADA paratransit programs (Dial-A-Ride) and RIDES

Increasing Fixed-Route Fare from $1 to $2

Increasing Demand Response (Dial-A-Ride) Fare from $2 to $4

PUBLIC INPUT WELCOMED

Representatives from Island Transit will be available at the public meeting to answer questions and concerns the public may have regarding the proposed service changes. If members of the public cannot make the public meeting and have a comment, they may call Island Transit at (409)797-3900 or email transitcomments@galvestontx.gov.

Additionally, for Demand Response (Dial-A-Ride) users, reasonable accommodations to attend the meeting can be made a day in advance, by calling (409) 797-3909, or via RIDES (409)-733-3333.

Official Public Comments will be accepted through April 12th, 2019.
