(GALVESTON, TX) May 5, 2018 – The 2018 Election brought thousands of voters to the polls to vote with all Council positions on the ballot. The Mayor James D Yarbrough, District 1 representative Amy Carmen Bly, District 2 representative Craig Brown, and District 4 representative Jason Hardcastle all ran unopposed. The District 3 race drew two opponents, David Collins and Frank Maceo. The District 5 race drew four opponents Jeff Antonelli, Chris Petrowski, Carol Hollaway, and John Paul Listowski. The District 6 race drew two opponents Jackie Cole and Carolyn Sunseri.
In an election requiring a majority vote, a candidate for a particular office must receive more than 50 percent of the votes for office. Due to the results of the District 5 race, a runoff election is required for that office under Election Code §2.021 of the City’s Charter. The runoff election for the District 5 race will be held on June 16th, 2018.
The City has called a special meeting on May 15th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Council Chambers to officially canvass the vote. The results are available on the City’s website at www.galvestontx.gov/electionresults.
