Registration is now open for the next Citizens Police Academy

(GALVESTON, TX) May 17, 2018 –The Citizens Police Academy offers insight into all GPD divisions and special teams including Officer Recruitment and Training, Criminal Investigation, S.W.A.T., Crime Scene Investigation, the K-9 Unit, Firearms Training, Vice and Narcotics. More importantly, it offers a unique opportunity to connect with your police department.

The Galveston Police Department’s 55th Citizens Police Academy will begin on Thursday, June 7th. Classes will be held at Garten Verein, 2704 Ave O in Galveston, each Thursday evening through August 23rd from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for the class or materials. Presentations open a window into Galveston Police Department operations--what they do and why they do it. This is also a chance to become more involved in your community, network with others across the island, and ultimately come together in partnership with your police department officers to improve the security and well-being of neighborhoods and commercial areas alike.

The mission of the Citizens Police Academy is to provide understanding through education. This course is designed to increase awareness of the function of the Police Department by educating citizens on topics related to the role of the Police Officer in their community. This course will strengthen ties between the Police Department and the community while providing knowledge and dispelling misconceptions. Come experience this fun, interesting way to better understand how the Galveston Police Department serves You.

Applicants should be 18 years of age or older and either live or work in the City of Galveston. Due to the sensitive subject matter applicants will be subjected to a background check. Participants must attend at least 9 classes to successfully complete the course.
