Galveston Hires New Assistant Director of Development Services to Oversee Building Services

(GALVESTON, TX) June 12, 2018– Todd Sukup, the City's newest employee and Assistant Director of Development Services, is a reflection of what the future of the Building Department will look like in Galveston. An agent of progress and innovation, Sukup was hired in response to the City's third-party Permit Process Audit. Sukup's 28 certifications make him a valuable asset to the department as the City works toward improving efficiencies in the permitting process on the Island.

"It does not make sense to have individual trade inspectors on an Island that is 32-miles long," said Executive Director of Development Services Tim Tietjens. "Our hope with bringing on someone like Todd who has numerous certifications and is familiar with operating with combination inspectors is to help make the building process more efficient for both the taxpayers and those who are investing in developing on Galveston Island."

As the City's Chief Building Official, Sukup will oversee all aspects of Building Services and will be focused on implementing the numerous recommendations made to the City as a result of the Permit Process Audit and will work toward expanding the knowledge, skills, and certifications that his team holds as we work toward offering Combination Building Inspectors.

He comes to Galveston from our neighbors on the mainland, Texas City, where he served as the Chief Building Official, Planning Coordinator, and Floodplain Administrator. Prior to that, Sukup served in both Bonham and McKinney in similar capacities.

Sukup holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Texas A&M Commerce and is a decorated U.S. Army veteran.

"We are fortunate to have someone like Sukup join our team here in Galveston," said City Manager Brian Maxwell. "While the City continues to focus on building up its infrastructure, we hope Todd’s experience and leadership will help encourage developers to invest in Galveston alongside us."
