Six Galveston firefighters headed to California for wildfires

Six Galveston firefighters left for California yesterday to help in the wildfires there that have killed more than 20 people and destroyed more than 3,000 homes and businesses.

Galveston firefighters Mike Varela Jr, Andy Bowen, Bryan Lee, Scott Zahara, Steven Beall and Austin Brinkley departed Monday after California requested aid from Texas. The Lone Star State is so far sending about 50 fire engines and 200 firefighters.

Our firefighters are headed to southern California where they will be assigned to an area to work for the next two weeks. All costs will be reimbursed.

Please keep them in your thoughts, as well as all the other emergency personnel and people whose communities are in the path of these wildfires.
