Education & Healthcare

The education and healthcare sector in Galveston has experienced sustainable growth and development. Galveston is home to three higher education facilities: Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG), University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), and Galveston College (GC). All of which have experienced growth in student population (total enrollment - 8,200), facilities, and programs. 

Galveston Independent School District (GISD) takes advantage of the outstanding local higher level educational institutions on Galveston Island. Strong partnerships exist inside all campuses of UTMB, TAMUG, and GC. GISD serves over 7,000 students on Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula, it offers tremendous opportunities with magnet programs, numerous certification programs which allows students to secure living wage jobs before or after graduation. Five GISD middle schools offer a variety of Pre-Advanced Placement credits, Ball High School has access to free or discounted dual credit hours through Galveston College.
