UTMB COVID-19 Testing
The City of Galveston has received funds from the United States Government in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant-CV allocation to be used to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19). This allocation was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), Public Law 116-136, to respond to the growing effects of this historic public health crisis.
The City is coordinating with the University of Texas Medical (UTMB) Branch at Galveston for COVID-19 testing and retesting (as needed) for the low-moderate income Galveston City service, retail, or hospitality workers. This sector of the Galveston workforce is a primary target for the spread of the disease due to their constant interaction with the local population and the large amount of visiting general public.
The City’s Grants & Housing Department (G&H) will process the applications for this assistance and set-up the UTMB appointment for testing. Applicants must work at a Galveston City service, retail, or hospitality business. Applicants that do not have insurance and make $44,150 or less are eligible for assistance.
UTMB will conduct all testing at their Galveston facility and provide the results to the applicant. Applicants must go through the Grants & Housing Department to register for the testing.
Applicants can call G&H at (409) 797-3820 to make an application and schedule an appointment. The application form is located below. The form can be downloaded and completed. Please email completed forms to Grants@GalvestonTX.Gov. The G&H will contact the applicant to complete the application process.
Service, retail, or hospitality business management can contact G&H at (409) 797-3820 to make arrangements to register their low-moderate income employees for testing.
The G&H office is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Applicants will be accepted on a first come-first serve basis.
Testing will take approximately 5 minutes, with results expected within 48 hours.
Testing will be conducted for the initial test, and as needed for retesting when symptoms arise or when contact has been verified.
