About the Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens Police Academy offers insight into all GPD divisions and special teams including Officer Recruitment and Training, Criminal Investigation, SW.A.T., Crime Scene Investigation, the K-9 Unit, Firearms Training, Vice and Narcotics. More importantly, it offers a unique opportunity to connect with your police department.

Presentations open a window into Galveston Police Department operations-what they do and why they do it. This is also a chance to become more involved in your community, network with others across the island, and ultimately come together in partnership with your police department officers to improve the security and well-being of neighborhoods and commercial areas alike.

We are pleased to announce the Galveston Police Department’s 56th Citizens Police Academy will begin on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Classes will be held each Thursday beginning September 20th through December 6th from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the training room at the Galveston Police Department, 601 54th Street in Galveston. There is no charge for the class or materials.

The mission of the Citizens Police Academy is to provide understanding through education. This course is designed to increase awareness of the function of the Police Department by educating citizens on topics related to the role of the Police Officer in their community. This course will strengthen ties between the Police Department and the community while providing knowledge and dispelling misconceptions. Come to experience this fun, interesting way to better understand how the Galveston Police Department serves You. The Citizen's Police Academy is open to anyone age 18 and over. Applicants must either live or work in the City of Galveston. Due to the sensitive subject matter, applicants will be subjected to a background check. Participants must attend at least 9 class sessions to successfully complete the course.

Requirements

Applicants should be 18 years of age or older and either live or work in the City of Galveston.

Due to the sensitive subject matter, applicants will be subjected to a background check. Participants must attend at least 9 classes to successfully complete the course.
