Galveston Police Department’s "National Night Out" Going Virtual for 2020
The Galveston Police Department will host its first virtual National Night Out (NNO) in light of the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing restrictions. Instead of heading out into neighborhoods for block parties, GPD is inviting the community to join them for a Facebook Live event on the official Galveston Police Department Facebook page @GalvestonPolice.
This event offers Galveston residents and neighbors a safer way to celebrate NNO and receive valuable information from officers, including:
How to increase crime prevention and awareness
Efforts to strengthen the partnership between the community and police
Ways to reduce crime
NNO will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the first two weeks of October. A short presentation will be given in two separate sessions covering different neighborhoods, the times are 6-6:15 p.m. and 6:30-6:45 p.m. on all four days. Residents will also have the opportunity to win door prizes at the end of each presentation during the Facebook Live event. To find out your district visit: https://www.galvestontx.gov/151/City-Council Although the festivities will be virtual, Galveston Police Chief Vernon Hale encourages all residents to keep with the NNO tradition and turn on their porch lights that evening to shine a light against crime.
