Be aware of scams, suspicious activity

Scam alert! 🚨 Law enforcement in the region have reported a scam of people attempting to gain access to residents’ homes by claiming to be testing water for COVID-19. In those instances, the scammers claimed they were working for the city. Law enforcement has also reported other scams about individuals falsely purporting to be setting up testing centers.

While we have not received local reports of this in Galveston, we want residents to be aware the scam exists. The City of Galveston has not contracted with any entities to provide water testing, nor do we believe this is necessary. All of our Public Works employees are issued identifying uniforms and drive City vehicles.

If someone comes to your home purporting to work for the city and testing water, do not let them in. Please call the Galveston Police Department at 409-765-3702 to report this activity.
