While Galveston largely dodged Hurricane Laura’s fury, there are some areas particularly along the island’s west end that have beachfront and dune walkover damage. This is a gentle reminder that construction activities proposed within 1,000 feet of the mean high tide line of the Gulf of Mexico require a Beachfront Construction Certificate/Dune Protection Permit before the work can begin, per the state’s rules. This includes projects to fill lots, rebuild dunes, rebuild walkovers, foundation repair, perimeter fencing, sand fencing, etc.
