Utility department/Xfinity opens to public with coronavirus precautions

The City of Galveston’s utility billing department is reopening this week to the public with health and safety precautions in place. The Xfinity Comcast Service Center in City Hall is also reopening to the public.

In-person meetings with other departments, such as Development Services, will continue by appointment, as will certain utility billing services, including setting up an account. The City of Galveston also has options for conducting city services online or by phone. 

While the City has remained open and provided all services throughout the pandemic, City Hall has had COVID-19 precautions in place limiting in-person contact since March.  

If a resident wishes to pay their water bill in person, they will be required to wear a mask and have a temperature screening in City Hall upon entering the building. Customers will be able to enter the utility billing lobby and speak with a city representative, though visits between customers will be spaced out to ensure safe social distancing. Remember that bills may still be paid by mail or online at galvestontx.gov/paymywaterbill. Bills may also be paid through the drive-up window at City Hall, 823 Rosenberg. 

Paying utility bills in person will not require an appointment, however, services that take longer, such as setting up a utility billing account will need to occur by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please call 409-797-3550. If you want to avoid an in-person visit, these services may also be provided over the phone.

XFinity’s location in City Hall will also reopen this week. Masks and temperature checks will also be required to enter.
