Scholes International Airport publishes draft master plan

The Scholes International Airport is developing its five-, 10- and 20-year master plan and welcomes public comments about the ideas and strategic plan presented to date.
This study evaluates the airport’s capabilities and role, to forecast future aviation demand, to plan for the timely development of new or expanded facilities to meet demand, and to ensure the airport maintains economic self-sufficiency. The airport’s Planning Advisory Committee, which is made up of representatives from airport management, regional municipalities, airport businesses and tenants, local economic interests and TxDOT, is also reviewing and providing feedback on the master plan materials.

Galveston’s Scholes International Airport is in the top 10 percent of general aviation airports in the State of Texas for its direct economic impact in the community. The municipal airport presents numerous opportunities for Galveston, including growth in aviation-related job training, expansion of corporate and business-related aviation activity, and development of the existing commercial property at the airport.

To date, the chapters of the master plan that have been published include: Inventory, Aviation Demand Forecasts, and Facility Requirements and Alternatives. Other pieces forthcoming include: Airport Plans and Land Use Compatibility, Financial Management and Development, and the Airport Business Plan.

Materials are available online at www.galveston.airportstudy.net. Draft working papers will be prepared at various milestones in the planning process and will be made available to the public on the Master Plan Documents section of this website. Please download and review the draft materials as they come available in the Master Plan Documents section.
If you have comments or questions regarding the Master Plan/Business Plan materials, please feel free to submit them to the planning team here. Comments received will be given due consideration during the preparation of the Master Plan/Business Plan.
