City facilities closed to public; City will continue providing services online, by phone

GALVESTON, TX – January 5, 2021 – The City of Galveston will return to providing services by phone or online in response to rising cases of Covid-19 in the community. City facilities will be closed beginning this afternoon for the protection of staff and the public.

This includes all city facilities, with the exceptions of parks and the McGuire Dent Recreation Center, which will limit the number of guests allowed in at one time. McGuire Dent will require reservations, which may be made by calling 409-797-3700.

The City of Galveston will continue providing all city services without interruption. The City has proven its ability to meet citizen needs electronically and will continue to do so. The City will continue to operate at full capacity and during all normal business hours.

Beginning today, the utility billing department will resume only taking payments through the drive-in window and online. Residents may pay their utility bill online at Municipal Court, 601 54th Street, remains open for payments, which may be completed by phone at 800-530-8084, or at the payment window.

Similarly, planning and development services, finance, and human resources will also conduct business online or over the phone. If you need assistance, please call the department. A directory of the primary phone numbers are available below and your call will be directed to the appropriate staff member.

As a reminder, the city is following all COVID-19 mandates and precautions set forth by the Governor’s Office at, which includes wearing face coverings in public spaces. We ask that everyone do their part to prevent community spread.
