Galveston, TX – February 12, 2021 – City services will continue uninterrupted on Monday and Tuesday of next week; however, we anticipate there could be delays due to inclement weather.
The City's sanitation department will operate as usual and collect the Monday route. City offices will be open. However, we anticipate having fewer staff members in, which could create delays for phone calls. We will address residents' needs and questions as soon as possible.
The City's Municipal Utilities team has been busy at work this week preparing for winter weather. One of our concerns is water infrastructure and the freezing temperatures causing water line breaks.
We urge our residents to take steps to ensure their water lines are insulated. We also recommend leaving your faucets on at a light drip to keep water moving in the water-line when temperatures are below 32 degrees.
As always, remember to protect all the Ps: People, pets, and plants! Please check on elderly neighbors and loved ones who may live alone. Also, please bring pets inside or be sure to secure a warm shelter for outdoor pets with ample food and water. The City recommends moving potted plants inside and covering any outdoor plants.
In case of ice on roads, allow yourself more time and distance between other vehicles to brake and bring the car to a stop. In the event of a power outage, please contact the CenterPoint Energy outage center at www.centerpointenergy.com/outagetracker.
We recommend having any necessary medications and food and water for two to three days.
