The City of Galveston is experiencing water line breaks across the island due to sub-freezing temperatures over the last two days. During this time, the Gulf Coast Water Authority, the city's water supplier, separately encountered a water supply issue, which greatly reduced the flow of water to the island. The valve is now fixed and water flow is increasing to the island, however, the supply is not yet meeting demand. The Gulf Coast Water Authority will continue increasing water supply to the island as it can, however, water storage on the island at this time is severely reduced.
The combination of these events has required the city to take immediate action to curtail water use across the island. The intent is to restore water as soon as possible. We will continue to provide updates but do not have an exact timeline for restoration currently.
