Two Galveston running events are returning this weekend, and both will necessitate road closures for residents to be aware of on Saturday.
The Daily News Press Run returns for its 10th annual race to support the Newspapers In Education program on Saturday, October 9th, 2021, beginning at 7 a.m. Newspapers in Education provides resources that use the newspaper to develop reading comprehension skills, critical thinking and a better understanding of the way the world relates to the classroom.
Participants will meet at The Daily News parking lot and the race will begin at 7 a.m. and finish before 11:30 a.m. During the race, the farthest west lane of the Causeway will be closed, reopening by 11:30 a.m.
The Galveston Island Brewing 5K beer run is also on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at Galveston Island Brewery. The race begins and ends at the brewery and runners will proceed west on Stewart Road to 85th Street, south on 85th Street to Seawall Blvd (south sidewalk) and west before completing a U-Turn and returning the same way. Modified traffic lanes will allow vehicular traffic to remain open in both directions on Stewart Road. A police officer will be stationed at 85th and Seawall to assist with participants crossing safely and vehicles traveling on Seawall. The race will end by 10 a.m.
