There are three major road and utility projects underway across the island, with estimated end dates later this year or in early 2024. Here’s the latest update on each:
23rd Street: This is a county project in coordination with the city for total reconstruction of the 23rd Street corridor, which includes water line work, increasing drainage capacity, sewer upgrades, concrete restoration, and sidewalks.
The contractor is currently working toward Avenue N and 23rd Street and wrapping up the sidewalk installation at Avenue M and 23rd. Substantial completion on the project is expected by February 2024.
37th Street: This is a city project to replace the water lines along 37th Street and complete a new mill and overlay. The first contract will include the installation of a new water line and underground drainage installation. This work is expected to be completed by January. Following the water line installation, the road will be repaved in 2024.
Avenue S: This county project is moving toward completion later this year. The project includes underground utility work, concrete restoration, sidewalks, and curbs along Avenue S from 53rd Street to the Seawall. The contractor is currently working on Avenue S between 33rd and 34th streets.
