Alternating lane closures along 23rd Street this month

There will be alternating lane closures on 23rd Street during the next three weeks as an Engineering Firm begins their design work on a corridor project.

Geotechnical Engineering’s design activities will include pavement coring and drilling. This work will begin during the week of July 8th and continue until July 30th, necessitating alternating lane closures.

Funding for the 23rd Street reconstruction project stems from a 2017 county bond election. As part of the county bond election, cities in Galveston County submitted priority projects to be eligible for funding. The 23rd Street reconstruction is one of several strategic Galveston projects selected.

As part of the work, one lane will be closed on 23rd Street between Broadway and Seawall. There will also be periodic closures on Avenue K Rear and Avenue N, between 21st and 23rd streets.

Coring and drilling is an early stage of the design project. The City of Galveston will update the public about future closures as design work is completed and construction begins on this project.
