Galveston, TX - July 19, 2019 - Around 3:30 on the morning of July 19th, the Galveston Police Department received a report of two suspects burgling a vehicle on the west side of the Holiday Inn at 5002 Seawall. A Galveston police officer who was working off-duty employment was the first to respond. The subjects tried to flee the scene in a vehicle, but as more officers arrived their attempt at flight proved to be futile. In all, four suspects were detained.
As the initial investigation broadened in scope, it was discerned that 14 vehicles were burgled, and additional investigative personnel was called in to assist. The vehicle in which the subjects attempted to flee was found to contain, multiple stolen firearms, multiple types of narcotics and multiple implements of the burgling trade.
The suspects were identified as:
1. Isaiah Melendez (03/21/2000) of Houston
2. Porcha Sweeney (11/15/1995) of Katy
3. Darrick Carriere (02/03/2001) of Houston
4. Elizabeth McCook (9/10/2000) of Missouri City
All four suspects were charged with two counts each of Theft of a Firearm (a state jail felony) with a bond of $60,000 per count. Carriere was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (a felony of the third degree) with an additional bond of $20,000.
The subjects were remanded into the custody of the Galveston County Jail. The investigation into their criminal escapades is ongoing.
