City monitoring weather system, preparing for possible flooding

The City of Galveston is preparing for potential street flooding in light of a disturbance in the Gulf.

Tropical moisture is going to spread over Southeast Texas with showers and thunderstorms increasing over the Gulf and coastal areas today, according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday through Thursday will be wet with frequent showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is likely at times. This is likely to coincide with higher-than-normal tides, which could exacerbate flooding.

The City of Galveston is preparing for the rain and high tides. We are implementing the pre-storm debris management plan and putting out street barricades in case of street closures due to flooding. Please monitor local weather reports and the City of Galveston's social media pages where we will be updating residents on this disturbance.
