Road closures announced for numerous fall events

Galveston, TX – October 22, 2019 – The island will be the host of many special events this week, including Ball High School homecoming parade, Oktoberfest and The Daily News Press Run.


The first of the week’s events begins Wednesday when Ball High School has its annual homecoming parade. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m., but floats will begin lining up around Ball High School, 4115 Avenue O, at 4 p.m.

The parade route will line-up on Avenue P between 41st and 45th Streets, and 43rd Street between Avenue O and Avenue Q at 4:00 PM. They will proceed from Avenue P to 39th Street, 39th Street to Seawall, Seawall to 35th Street, 35th Street to Avenue O, and back to Ball High. The Homecoming football game will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 at Courville Stadium. Come watch the Tors take on BF Terry High School!

38th Annual Island Oktoberfest

The 38th Annual Island Oktoberfest, hosted by First Lutheran Church, returns October 25th and 26th for a fun fall celebration of German music, food, sweets and drinks as well as arts & crafts, auctions, vendors, and kids activities! The two-day event will be held on 24th Street (between Church and Ball) and Winnie Street (between 23rd and 25th Streets). This area will be closed to traffic beginning Thursday, October 24th at 9 a.m. and will reopen on Sunday, October 27th at 12 p.m.

8th Annual Daily News Press Run

The Daily News Press Run returns for their 8th annual Walk/Run/Jog to support the Newspapers in Education program on Saturday, October 26th, 2019. Newspapers in Education provides resources that use the newspaper to develop reading comprehension skills, critical thinking and a better understanding of the way the world relates to the classroom.
