GPD Annual Promotion and Awards Ceremony

Galveston, TX - December 2, 2019 - Two longtime Galveston peace officers were promoted to new ranks last week and dozens of officers were recognized for exemplary service during the annual promotion and awards ceremony.
Pedro Alcocer was selected for promotion from the rank of Lieutenant to the rank of Police Department Captain, which became effective November 30, 2019. In this role, he will continue to command the Operations Bureau. Alcocer has been with the department since 1991.
Destin Sims was also promoted from the rank of Sergeant to the rank of Lieutenant, which also became effective November 30, 2019.
“Both Pedro Alcocer and Destin Sims have been with the department for many years and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to these positions,” Police Chief Vernon Hale said.
During the ceremony, Officers Villarreal, McCormack and Adema were awarded the “Life Saving Award” and Sergeants Maffei and Migues were recognized for superior leadership.
Numerous other peace officers and civilian employees were recognized for their service during the ceremony.
