GPD provides information about auto-pedesterian collision

On the morning of January 8th at approximately 4:50 a.m., Galveston police officers were called to the 5000 block of Broadway in reference to an automobile versus pedestrian crash. While medical personnel were still on their way, officers began rendering first aid to the victim.

At this point in the investigation, it appears that the victim was leaving the convenience store located at the corner of 51st Street and Broadway on a bicycle, and entered the road without checking for traffic. The driver of the motor vehicle, a privately owned dumpster-type garbage truck, stated that he was unable to avoid the collision.

Specialized investigators were called to the scene, and determined that the driver displayed no signs of intoxicant use, and the commercial vehicle was found to be in good working order. As of 9:15 a.m., the victim was in serious but stable condition, and expected to survive.
