City announces traffic plan change for 45th Street

45th Paving(1)

The effort to expedite construction on the 45th Street project continues.

The City intends to redirect traffic to the east side of 45th on the new concrete road surface northbound from Ave N 1/2 to Broadway beginning Saturday, February 8th, weather permitting. This change in traffic pattern will allow the project to be completed more quickly and will allow our residents to travel on a smoother, cleaner driving surface.

Traffic will continue to be directed one-way southbound on the west side of 45th Street from Ave N 1/2 to Seawall until additional pavement and walkways are completed on the east side of the road.

The location of the change in direction of travel will adjust every few weeks as construction continues toward the Seawall.

Travelers must observe the traffic control devices and detour signs during this period.

All major cross streets on 45th will remain open; however there will be intermittent closures of other cross streets as paving continues south on 45th. A cross street may be closed for up to 2 weeks at a time during the paving process.

Expect demolition of the pavement surface on the west side of 45th beginning at Broadway and proceeding south toward the Seawall to begin after February 8th. That demolition effort will follow the progress of the new pavement on the east side until it reaches the Seawall.

New pavement on the west side of 45th Street will follow the demolition and road bed preparation in increments of two to three block stretches.

The construction company is working with the City to expedite this project. There have been unforeseen difficulties completing this project and we expect more to arise before work is complete; however, the contractor and City will continue to work those out as expeditiously as possible.
