At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the Galveston Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 2400 block of Avenue O.
Fire personnel rescued one individual from the residence. The individual was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Due to the prompt and effective response of firefighters, the fire was contained to a single home.
Avenue O is currently closed between 24th and 25th Streets as emergency crews remain on scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the area to ensure the safety of emergency personnel and to allow for ongoing response and investigative efforts.
